💡

What is GACC Registration?

GACC registration is mandatory for all food, beverage, and health supplement products entering China. Under Decrees 248 and 249, overseas manufacturers must register with the General Administration of Customs of China before their products can clear Chinese customs. The process involves submitting documentation, product classification, and obtaining a unique registration number.

GACC Registration Questions from US, UK, AU & NZ Exporters

Answers to the questions food exporters ask most about Decree 248 registration, CIFER filing and customs clearance.

What is GACC registration and does it apply to US/UK exporters?
GACC Decree 248 requires all overseas food manufacturers – including those in the US, UK, Canada and Australia – to register with the General Administration of Customs of China before exporting. Without registration, customs rejects your shipment at the border.
How long does GACC registration take?
Typical timelines are 2-4 months for low-risk categories and up to 6 months for high-risk foods. The exact duration depends on documentation completeness. We manage the entire CIFER process and track progress for you.
What documents do I need for GACC registration?
Key documents include business registration, HACCP certification, facility information, product specifications, and ingredient lists. We review, translate and submit all documentation through the CIFER system.
Is GACC registration valid forever?
No. Registration is valid for 5 years and renewal must be filed 6 months before expiry. We track your validity dates and handle renewals proactively.
Who registers: the manufacturer or the exporter?
The overseas manufacturing facility must be registered. If you manufacture in the US, UK, Australia or Canada and export to China, your production plant must be in the GACC registry – not just your trading company.
Can I ship before registration is complete?
No. Since January 1, 2022, Chinese customs rejects any food import without a valid GACC registration. Registration must be finalized before your first shipment.
